Forward to a friend!
Welcome to our January & February 2008 newsletter!

Welcome to our first newsletter of 2008! May we take this opportunity to wish all of you and your loved ones a wonderful New Year filled with light, peace, and opportunity.

We have been truly blessed at the dawn of the New Year. The Christmas Crystal Class was both magical and spiritual as we journeyed together to learn and experience more deeply the 12 crystals that form the basis of the wall of New Jerusalem.

The Reiki I class in January was a wonderful experience also, as we shared this healing art with seven wonderful people. At this point, the Reiki II class in February is full.

Simon wishes to give his thanks and love to all those he has met so far in the USA. It has been a very special experience for him in meeting all those who he had previously spoken to during readings and / or phone classes. Simon looks forward to meeting more of you soon!

Several more classes have been added to our schedule. New for 2008 is a special package rate for those who register and pay for the Reiki I and Reiki II classes together. This helps us to plan class sizes in advance as well as providing a means for people to save even more money by taking classes with us.

For those of you who are interested in having readings from Simon, he will not have any openings until the end of March at the earliest, so please wait until April to contact him about scheduling a reading or one of his Psychic & Mediumship development classes.

Thank you again for all that you have given to us and we hope that we can radiate back to you the love, joy and healing that you have brought to us :)

Love & blessings,

Lisa & Simon

Animals & Healing  Jasper healing Lisa

Animals are spiritual creatures and have remarkable healing ability. For many years, dogs have been used as guides for the blind, helping those with physical problems live independently, and to even assist those with epilepsy to help manage seizures. Cats, dogs, horses, birds - all animals are healers.

Many who have attended our classes have met our cats, Jasper and Isis. Both of them have shown great interest in Reiki and pay special attention while we prepare materials for classes. They are both attuned to Level II Reiki.

Jasper in particular has unique healing abilities. Lisa sometimes has migraines that will not budge and Jasper has the ability to break the migraine. Normally when Lisa has a migraine, no one can touch her head, but Jasper will climb up, put his gentle arms around her neck, and press gently on just the right points on her head and neck, while purring in her ear until she falls asleep. The photo above shows him doing this. When Lisa wakes up, the migraine is gone, or at least very much reduced. Jasper also does wonderful shoulder massages, but is picky about who he works on!

When our third cat Amanda was still walking this earth, Isis was her healer. When Amanda's arthritis acted up or her thyroid was out of kilter, Isis would go up to her and touch her nose to the trouble spot, then sit with her offering healing.

Those who receive healing services from us are usually receiving distance healing from these two lovely creatures in addition to what is being received from Lisa and Simon.

We are sure that you have experiences with animals doing healing and we would love to share some of those stories in future newsletters. If you have a story to share, please send it to us through our contact form and select "ARHA Newsletter Input" as the subject.
Lisa's Minestrone Soup recipe

Lisa & Isis
For our full-day classes, I usually make soup for lunch. Sometimes I dig through recipes on the Food Network website or allrecipes.com and then modify them, but there is one very easy recipe that I use when there are no vegetarians in the crowd. If there are vegetarians, then substitute Morningstar soy "fake ground beef."

Measuring has never been a strong point in my family. Perhaps it is the Italian heritage. So, amounts are approximate.

Minestrone Soup

1 pound ground beef
1 medium onion, diced
1 Tb olive oil
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp pepper
1 can or box beef broth
1 can (15oz) diced tomatoes (no salt added version if possible)
1 bag frozen soup vegetables or mixed vegetables *
2 tsp oregano
2 tsp basil
either garlic powder, a spoonful of chopped garlic, or a couple of cloves of garlic cut small
water (amount varies)
1 cup uncooked small pasta such as elbow, bow tie, etc.

In a large pot big enough for soup, add the olive oil and heat it. Saute the ground beef until it is broken into small bits and browned all the way through. As the beef is browning, add the onions, salt and pepper. Once the beef is browned, drain off excess fat from the pot. (note: if you use very low fat beef that contains less than 10% fat, draining is optional)

Add the garlic (I like to use a heaping teaspoon of the bottled chopped garlic and some garlic powder), then the beef broth, one can of tomatoes (with the juice in the can), and vegetables. Add water as necessary to fill the pot 2/3 full (will probably be 2-3 cups water). Add oregano and basil. As this is simmering over medium heat, turn your attention to the pasta.

Cook the pasta in boiling water for 10 minutes, then drain it.

Add the pasta to the soup. Once everything is nice and hot, you can either serve it right away or let it cool down and refrigerate overnight.

I prefer to make soup the day before and refrigerate it so the spices have a chance to meld, then reheat to serve.

It is great served with crackers or croutons, and maybe sprinkle a little parmesean cheese on top.

* This recipe calls for frozen vegetables since they are precut and easy to use. Mixed vegetables typically contains corn, peas, green beans, carrots, and lima beans. Soup vegetables may contain okra in addition to all those other veggies.  Feel free to use whatever vegetables you want, including canned chickpeas, kidney beans, fresh or frozen zucchini (or marrow), or chop up a bunch of fresh vegetables from the garden. You may need to adjust cooking time to ensure the vegetables are fully cooked and soft before serving.

Who was St.Valentine?

Well, it's likely that different people will give you different answers to that question, which probably mirrors the fact that there is some confusion about exactly who St. Valentine was!! Marge Simpson would probably say he's the patron saint of chocolate whilst others (OK, I'm talking about Homer) might say he's the little guy that flies around shooting arrows through lovers' hearts (who is actually Eros).

So, is St. Valentine fact or myth? Well, maybe a little of both. Although the celebration of St. Valentine's Day remains very popular, the confusion over its origins led the Catholic Church, in 1969, to drop St. Valentine's Day from the Roman calendar of official, worldwide Catholic feasts. (Those highly sought-after days are reserved for saints with more clear historical record.) Some parishes, however, still observe the feast of St. Valentine.

The origins of St. Valentine's Day are thought to lie in the ancient Roman dedication to one of their gods, Lupercalia, which was celebrated on Feb. 15. On Lupercalia, a young man would draw the name of a young woman in a lottery and would then keep the woman as a physical companion for the year (!).

You can probably appreciate that the Pope at the time, Gelasius I, was less than thrilled with this tradition. So he changed the arrangements to have both the men and women draw the names of saints whom they would then emulate for the year.

Following this, Valentine became the patron of the feast, instead of Lupercus. For Roman men, the day continued to be an occasion to seek the affections of women, and it became a tradition to give out handwritten messages of admiration that included Valentine's name.

There was also a conventional belief in Europe during the Middle Ages that birds chose their partners in the middle of February. Thus the day was dedicated to love, and people observed it by writing love letters and sending small gifts to their beloved.

Meditation of the month

It's the month of St. Valentine's Day, so let's turn our thoughts to the most powerful energy in the Universe - love.

After getting ourselves into that nice quiet place, feeling safe and grounded.........

It's St. Valentine's Day and we are wondering......who loves me?, why do they love me?, who do I love?, why do I love them?,.........what is love?!..........and probably a host of other questions and wonderings...........

Just as you're in the deepest part of your thoughts and wonderings about love you hear the doorbell ring!! Typical!!! "Always someone at the door, just as I'm finally getting somewhere with this meditation thang......."

So, you get up out of your comfy chair and walk (march!!) towards the door, open it and are ready to deliver the "this had better be important" line to your unexpected caller.......

Aghhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!! There's no-one there!!!!! "I don't believe it"!!!!! "Just when I was finally getting comfy in my meditation, too!!!! "Typical"!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just as you're ready to slam the door shut (particularly hard ;) ) you hear a voice....... "I'm sorry if I disturbed you. It's just that I heard you thinking about love and, well, it's my specialist subject!! Plus being St. Valentine's Day and all......well.......I thought I'd give you my gift.........if you'd like it?"

As you look out of the door, searching to see the origin of the voice, you able to see the whole world.......every part of it...........gone are the parked cars and streetlights outside your house.......in their place you see oceans, forests, valleys, mountains, all the creatures of the Earth.........all these things........you are able to see and feel at the same time.........you feel your heart fill to overflowing with love and joy, causing tears of happiness to well up in your eyes..........

As you adjust to this incredible emotion sweeping over you, you're able to just about utter the words..."who's there?".........

........and you feel the reply "I am the source of all love......I love you.......in fact, I am in love with you......"

You listen, hearing and feeling the words that are spoken to you....within you..........

"I couldn't find a card that I liked enough to give you, so I just wanted to remind you of the things that I have given to you.......because I love you so much......."

"I even have your picture on my fridge, so I can remember you every day and love you more and more............"

You then ask.........."so....what do you want from me? What can I give you?"

and the voice replies.............

"I give my love to you freely. All I ask is that you remember that I love you, now and always, and to come to me whenever you need more love..........."

Developments to our Usui Reiki classes

We have some great news for those people who have been considering taking Reiki classes from us! We've introduced some new flexible ways of taking our classes and a great value Reiki I & II package.

The first thing we've done is to give those considering taking our Reiki I class with us more flexibility in choosing when to take the class with us. Our Reiki I class is held over two days, a Saturday and a Sunday. We've now introduced a system whereby someone may choose to take the Sunday of the class at a later date, if that is more convenient for them. The total class fee must still be paid in advance, of course. You just simply let us know that you'd like to take the Sunday of a future Reiki I class with us and that's it!!

We've also introduced a package whereby Reiki I & II classes can be booked in advance with us. The advantage for the student booking the classes this way is that they will save even more money than they are already through taking the classes with us. The benefit for us is that it helps us have a better idea of future class numbers which allows us to plan ahead much more efficiently. (Of course, if someone wanted to book and pay for classes separately at the individual class rate then they can still do that.)

There are terms and conditions applicable to this package. The main ones to note are that the package must be booked either before or at the time of the Reiki I class and, whilst the class fee is non-refundable, the Reiki II class that is booked doesn't necessarily have to be the one that follows the Reiki I class. It can be a later one if that is more convenient. The rates for the Reiki I & II package can be found below in our "Class Schedule" section.

So, hopefully, we've introduced some changes that will benefit everybody and allow all those that want to share and learn with us to do so :).

More details about these great new features will appear on our website soon. In the meantime, please contact us if you'd any more information about them.

Upcoming classes

Currently, our Reiki II class in February is fully booked!

We do have more classes coming up starting with our Crystal Discovery class on March 22.

This immensely popular class is a lovely half day class which is an absolute must for anyone wanting to learn and share more about crystals. Learn how they can help us heal, aid our discernment and intuition, help us to channel energy for readings and much more! Please bring along any crystals that you have that you would like to share with others in the class. This class really is a great way of learning as much as is possible to learn about crystals in half a day! The class has been developed by us over a period of time and has proved to be highly enjoyable for all who have taken it with us. We would love to see you at our next class :)

Have you considered taking a Reiki class but have been waiting for the right time?! Our next Usui Reiki I class will be April 12-13, 2008. The class is a very effective and practical way to experience self healing to enable oneself to be the intact vessel necessary to heal others. This is a full two day weekend class - yet our class fee is only that usually charged for one day Reiki classes. Our class is held over two days because we incorporate energy and spiritual health and safety - crucial, in our view, in helping to ensure we keep ourselves in the best place possible whilst practicing energy healing and spiritual exploration. A very popular class which often initiates profound and life changing healing shifts for those receiving the Usui Reiki attunement.

We now have our Usui Reiki II class scheduled for May 17th 2008.  We have arranged it so that sufficient time will have elapsed for our students who received their Reiki I attunement in April to be able to take this class. This is a one day class and builds on the foundation of the Usui Reiki I class. You will learn the symbols and techniques for sending healing beyond time and space (or, said another way, you will realise that time & space are not a barrier to sending love & healing - because love & healing are everything, everywhere - and you are part of it :) ). You will also receive your Usui Reiki II attunement which will allow you to become a Reiki practitioner.

We still have spaces available for both these Reiki classes but places do fill up quickly, so please register through our website as soon as possible if you would like to take either of these classes. There are two payment rates for our classes - one for new students and one existing ARHA students & clients. Please be sure to use the Pay Pal buttons for the special rate if it applies to you! If you haven't already, please also read about our great new Reiki I & II packages. Details are above in our "Developments to our Usui Reiki classes" section.

Simon's Psychic Development & Mediumship classes have proved to be very popular!  Simon is currently booked through March, so please contact him from April onwards for readings and classes.

Please refer to our Upcoming Classes section below for full details about these classes and more information is also available on our website in the "Classes" section.

We also invite you to read the Testimonials on our website to find out what others have thought of our classes and services.

  •  Crystal of the month: Aquamarine Amethyst Cave
Aquamarine is a member of the Beryl family of crystals and appears pale blue to blue-green, sometimes appearing almost white. It is semi-opaque, although gemstone quality can be nearly transparent. As a blue-green crystal, it works with both the throat and heart chakras. It fosters communication and courage. It helps to attune one to more spiritual levels of awareness and spiritual truths. The primary message of this crystal is to "always be prepared." In the Bible, there is the parable of the servant being prepared for the master's arrival, which is the mssage of this crystal.

All members of the Beryl family have the property of instilling guidance from God and that there is no obstacle that confidence and conviction cannot resolve as long as one remains open to the solution.

Beryl appears as one of the crystals in the breastplate of the High Priest in Exodus and in the wall of New Jerusalem in Revelations.
