Greetings from Amethyst Rose Healing Arts!

We hope you are enjoying the autumn season as the trees turn lovely shades of yellow, red, orange, and burgundy. This is the time of year when thoughts turn all the holidays that follow in short order, including Thanksgiving (U.S.), Christmas, and New Year's.

In this issue we are including some holiday survival tips and a meditation that we hope will help you during this busy season.

Great news is that Simon will be in the U.S. for Christmas and the New Year!! He will be here for January and February and will be happy to meet all and anyone that would like to say hi! This will also be a good opportunity to book a face to face reading with him as appointments are going to be very limited. Simon will be offering his telephone readings whilst here, too.

We have a special Christmas Crystal Celebration class on December 8. Space is limited, so please register as soon as possible! There is more information about our class offerings in the "Upcoming Classes" section. We are also working on our class schedule for 2008, which should be in our website in a few weeks.

In addition to our classes and services, we also sell candles, crystals, pendulums, books, and crystal bracelets and necklaces which can make wonderful gifts. Most of these items are available through our online shop. If you are local to Herndon, Virginia, please call to make an appointment to see our store.

May you enjoy a wonderful autumn season and a special Happy Thanksgiving to our clients and students in the U.S.

Love & Blessings,

Lisa & Simon

With the appearance of Christmas items on store shelves, we can't help but be reminded that the holiday season is right around the corner. This is a time for preparation of the birth of Jesus, wishing good will and peace to all. It is also a time of family gatherings, parties, gift buying, decorating, and endless "to do" lists thrust us into a busy, stressful time. We would like to share with you some of tips that we use to survive the season.

1. Take time for yourself.
Before taking care of others, it is necessary to take care of oneself. Be sure to get adequate sleep, eat properly, exercise, and find time to meditate and relax. In our Reiki I class, we teach that "a healer is only as good as the vessel and an overtired, stressed, out-of-balance healer won't be able to do his or her best helping clients." The same is true for everyone.

2. Make sure you know who YOU are!
Interacting or even being in the same place as a lot of people, whether it is family, co-workers, or strangers at the mall can result in a lot of chaotic energy swirling around. Keeping your sense of self is important. Set the intention "whatever is not mine, please leave immediately." Call on Archangel Michael to help remove what doesn't belong.

3. Keep your aura closed!
To avoid getting drained at the mall, airports, or other crowded places, close your aura. It is much like shutting a window to keep the bugs out, but still being able to see what is outside. Use the Shower Meditation in the morning as a means to put yourself in a protective bubble of light. Setting the following intention also helps: "I close off my aura to all but my own highest self and those of the highest vibration that I invite." Those of the highest vibration include Archangels.

4. Remember the power of prayer
We are are given challenges in life that are part of our learning experience, but remember that the Lord does not give us more than we can handle. He is always there for us, and all we have to do is ask for His assistance through prayer. A wonderful prayer to keep in mind during difficult times is the Serenity prayer, originally written by Reinhold Niebuhr in the 1930s.

God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.

Living one day at a time;
Enjoying one moment at a time;
Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace;
Taking, as He did, this sinful world
as it is, not as I would have it;
Trusting that He will make all things right
if I surrender to His Will;
That I may be reasonably happy in this life
and supremely happy with Him
Forever in the next.
Amen.

Take care and have a wonderful, safe, and spiritual holiday season!

Shower Meditation

Here is a lovely, short meditation that is easy to do in the shower first thing in the morning. Water is a liquid crystal that purifies and grounds us.

As you stand under the flowing water, picture yourself standing under a waterfall made of amethyst. Set the intention and visualize all the stale and negative energy around you being washed away to be transmuted, or recycled into free energy.

Then, visualize the water as a protective bubble, and ask God to have his angels wrap you in their white protective light. Ask for a ring of violet flames around this bubble to transmute stale and negative energy. Set the intention that only those things for your highest good and according to God's will may enter, and all else will be sent into the violet flames.

Before you finish your shower, visualize a cord extending from your feet and wrapping around the center of the earth, and another extending from the top of your head to God.

Now you can start your day grounded, protected, and clean both physically and energetically!

Simon cuddling kitty JasperCrystal of the Month: Jasper

This month's crystal has special meaning to us, since one of our cats is named Jasper. Those of you who have met our cats, he is the big golden one that is about twice the size of most house cats. He earned his name because his fur looks like picture jasper and he has a nurturing and grounding disposition. (Pictured at right is Simon and Jasper.)

Jaspers are members of the extensive Quartz family which includes quartz (rose quartz, blue quartz, amethyst, citrine, clear quartz, etc.), agates, opals, chalcedony, carnelian, aventurine, and jaspers. Unlike amethyst, citrine, or what people normally think of as "quartz," jaspers are made of crystals too small to be easily seen. They are opaque and come in a wide variety of colors and patterns.

In the Bible, jasper is one of the stones on the breast plate of the High Priest in Exodus (Old Testament) and the base of New Jerusalem in Revelations (New Testament).

mixed jaspersOverall, jaspers are nurturing, grounding, promotes emotional balance, protects from negativity, and has a calming effect that promotes a feeling of stability and security.  It is known as the supreme nurturer and very supportive during times of stress which makes it an ideal type of crystal for this time of year! Specific colors and patterns of jaspers have additional properties. The color relates to which chakras it supports: purple for the crown and third eye, blues for the throat, greens and pinks for the heart, yellow for the solar plexus, orange for the sacral, and reds for the root.

The following are some specific types of jaspers and their properties:
 bloodstone
Bloodstone: dark green with red splashes, balances the heart and root chakras and supports the blood. Legend of the stone says that it was first formed when drops of Christ's blood stained jaspers at the foot of the cross, which is why it is also known as the Martyr's Stone.

Picture Jasper: This is a combination of golds, browns, tans, and sometimes greens and blues that form a picture. It encourages visualization, which can help one create a positive image of the future that can help with business and personal pursuits. It can also bring hidden emotions to the surface for healing.

Red Jasper: Solid red, sometimes with black or white veins. This is very grounding and protective. It works with the root chakra and emphasizes survival and physical protection.

Yellow Jasper: Butterscotch yellow, sometimes with tans and brown veining. It is strongly associated with the solar plexus chakra which controls the liver, spleen, and surrounding organs. The solar plexus is also the seat of personal power and this crystal helps one to be strong and balanced in exercising that power, including interacting with others. It is also known to be protective for travelers.

Mookaite: Promotes balance and calmness when dealing with change. It encourages versatility and points out possibilities, which can help one to choose the right one. It also helps to fortify the immune system and blood.

There are many, many other forms of jasper including brecciated, ocean, orbicular, leopard skin, snake skin, picasso, poppy, royal plume, and many others that all relate to the pattern of colors in the crystal. Then there's just "jasper" which is the generic term for all forms of the crystal that do not have a particular pattern.

Our crystal shop, which is also available online, carries red jasper, bloodstone, and mixed jaspers.
